The works of the GREEK – AMERICAN LUXURY TOURISM & GASTRONOMY WORKSHOP 2021 have been concluded late at night on Wednesday 27 October, raising high expectations for incoming American travelers to Greece in 2022.
The US is one of the most dynamic markets of incoming luxury travelers for Greece, making it one of the top three tourist destinations for Americans in 2021, as confirmed by the contacts of Greek participants with the American travel companies during the B2B meetings.
Demand for Greece seems to have exceeded initial expectations, as the number of Americans traveling to popular Greek tourist destinations this year approached a 65% of 2019 levels, raising expectations for even higher performance in 2022.
The outcome of the event which ended on October 27, 2021, noted the participation of 104 American travel agents and the holding of 469 business meetings, as depicted in the digital reports.
The event was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, the Intercultural Group for UNESCO, and the Greek Embassy in Washington.
The strategic partner of the event was USTOA ( the United State Tour Operators Association) in which Tourism Media & Events has adhered as an Associate Member.
Main Sponsor of the event is the Greek National Tourism Organization.
Honored Region is the Region of South Aegean and Honored Destination is the Municipality of Piraeus (Destination Piraeus).
Sponsors of the event were the Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” and the “Greek Breakfast” of the Hotel Chamber of Greece.
The momentum of the event couldn’t be greater due to both the good performance of American tourism in Greece in 2021, and the significant increase in direct flights of American Airlines, Delta Airlines, and United.
At the beginning of the event, a webinar was held with presentations of Greek destinations and gastronomic products to representatives of large and specialized local media, ensuring maximum publicity of the event.
Presentations were made by the Director of GNTO, USA & Canada, Mr. Konstantinos Harokopos, the Director of Membership and Programming of the Association of US Tour Operators (USTOA), Mr. Luis Maravi, the spokesperson of South Aegean Region, Ms. Johanna Strand, the Marketing Consultant of the Municipality of Piraeus (Destination Piraeus), Mr. Dimitris Koutoulas, and the chef Maria Lois, who talked about Greek gastronomy.
The event ended on Wednesday 27.10.2021 with a live raffle draw where 20 gifts from Greek destinations and businesses were offered to the American travel agents, giving them the opportunity to visit Greece and seal their collaborations with Greek participants.
