07/06/2021 The works of the Greek – Arabic Luxury Tourism & Gastronomy Workshop 2021 in the United Arab Emirates were completed last Tuesday. The workshop, with a focus on the UAE market, is part of a course of Virtual Greek Tourism & Gastronomy Workshops 2021 events, organized by Tourism Media & Events towards the direction of enhancing luxury tourism in Greece.
The Greek – Arabic Luxury Tourism & Gastronomy Workshop 2021 was held with the ultimate goal of attracting high-income tourists to Greece. It is commonplace that the Arabic market is one of the main sources of incoming travelers to Greece.
The event, which ended on June 1, was attended by the largest and most important travel agents of the United Arab Emirates, confirming their special interest in Greece, both for well-known destinations, such as Mykonos and Santorini, and for new destinations, such as Crete and Preveza.
The event took place under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, the Intercultural Group for UNESCO, and the Greek Embassy in the UAE, based in Abu Dhabi.
The main Sponsor of the event was the Greek National Tourism Organization.
Sponsors were the Region of Crete and Mideast Travel Worldwide, while the Honored Destination was the Municipality of Preveza.
It is highlighted that the date and time of the event was critical mainly due to the recent visit of the Minister of Tourism, Mr. Theocharis to the Middle East. The mobility of travel agents was ensured by the organization of the ATM(Arabian Travel Market), and the operation of flights made by Flydubai, Wiizair Abudabi, and of course Etihad and Emirates.
It is pointed out that at the beginning of the event a webinar was held with presentations of destinations and gastronomic products of Greece, to representatives of large and specialized local media, thus ensuring maximum publicity of the event.
The event was honored by the presence of the Minister of Tourism, Mr. Haris Theocharis, and Mr. Pantelis Gassios, Advisor Counselor for Economic and Commercial Affairs of the Embassy of Greece in Abu Dhabi.
Presentations were made by the Director General of GNTO, Mrs. Sofia Lazaridou, Dr. Kyriakos G. Kotsoglou, Authorized Consultant of Tourism & e-Government, and Mr. Nikos Alexakis, Head of Tourism from the Region of Crete, and Mr. Leonidas Argyros, the Deputy Mayor of Municipality of Preveza,
