26/03/2021 The way opens for the extension of the tourist season from the British market to Greece, through the alternative forms of tourism.
The above finding are the aftermath of the 1st Virtual Greek Alternative Tourism & Gastronomy Workshop in the United Kingdom, which completed its works on Wednesday, March 24.
The event featured 684 appointments (B2B meetings) and was attended by 117 travel agents and journalists, as well as 37 companies, British importers and wholesalers in the food and beverage sector.
This workshop of Tourism Media & Events is part of a course of events following that of Germany. More events are scheduled with the markets of France (April 13-15) and Denmark (April 19-20), focusing on alternative tourism and gastronomy.
The first half of Tourism Media & Events concludes with two workshops on luxury tourism and gastronomy in Russia and the United Arab Emirates, next May.
The interest in Greek tourism is extremely positive for the touristic year of 2021, as illustrated by the high participation. The British agents learned the new products of Greece in the tourism sector, showed special interest in new tourist destinations, creating a hopeful vibe for a touristic 2022.
The majority of British Tour Operators and Agents estimated that despite the pandemic conditions, the British people want to travel to Greece, hoping that the British government will overturn the stern and lift travel bans for June 2021.
They underlined the great potential that our country has in the field of thematic tourism with a focus on walking, climbing, diving, and sports tourism. The interest of dozens of British importers to get in touch with Greek companies in the food and beverage sector, which are potential ambassadors of Greek tourism through gastronomy, was also remarkable.
The main Sponsor of the event was the Greek National Tourism Organization.
Honored Region of the event was the Region of Crete and Honored Municipality, the Municipality of Preveza.

At the beginning of the event, a webinar was held with presentations of destinations and gastronomic products of Greece, not only to travel agents and importers but also to representatives of large and specialized local media in the UK.
The event was honored by the presence of the Ambassador of Greece to the United Kingdom, Mr. Ioannis Raptakis, the Minister of Tourism, Mr. Haris Theocharis, and the Secretary General of GNTO, Mr. Dimitris Fraggakis, who also presented the new campaign of the organization.
Presentations were made by Mr. Nikos Alexakis, Head of Tourism, Mr. Kyriakos Kotsoglou, Authorized Consultant of Tourism & e-Government of the Region of Crete, and Mr. Leonidas Argyros, Deputy Mayor.
The new profile of AEGEAN AIRLINES and its flight program in Great Britain and Greece was presented by the Director of Business Development of AEGEAN AIRLINES U.K., Mrs. Victoria Bray.
